Building a Stronger Future for Masonry

At our inaugural Masonry Association Members’ Technical Meeting, Eve Livett reflected on the Association’s progress over the past 18 months and outlined an ambitious vision for strengthening the masonry sector through collaboration, technical leadership and investment in skills. The presentation highlighted the growth of the Association to 43 members with representation from across the masonry supply chain, reinforcing its position as a credible voice for the industry.
Eve provided members with an update on the latest government and CITB announcements affecting the construction industry, including apprenticeship reforms, new funding opportunities, the expansion of Skills England, and initiatives designed to address the industry’s ongoing skills shortage. She also showcased the work of the National Masonry Academy, highlighting achievements including CITB-approved short courses, Registered Installer Schemes, apprenticeship delivery, onsite NVQs, the Military to Masonry programme, and new partnerships aimed at inspiring the next generation to choose careers in masonry.
The presentation also reviewed the Association’s wider activities across skills and training, technical guidance, representation and social value. Eve shared updates on the launch of the Guild of Bricklayers Mastercraft – The Churchill Cup, progress on the Masonry Quality Charter, collaboration with the Home Builders Federation and support for industry training initiatives. She also introduced the findings from the Association’s survey into cavity barrier installation practices, reinforcing the need for practical guidance, competency and collaboration to improve quality and compliance across the industry.
The presentation demonstrated how the Masonry Association is bringing manufacturers, contractors, suppliers, educators and technical experts together to tackle the industry’s biggest challenges, ensuring masonry continues to build safely, competently and with confidence for generations to come.
