Rising tensions in the Middle East are beginning to ripple through global construction supply chains, with several major manufacturers warning of price increases across key materials.
In recent weeks, contractors across the UK have reported sudden uplifts in the cost of essential products. While the increases are still emerging, early indications suggest they could place additional strain on already tight project budgets, particularly for smaller firms. Many of whom operate on narrow margins. Where tenders have already been submitted and agreed, unexpected price rises can quickly erode profitability, leaving businesses exposed to financial risk.
The Masonry Association is urging members to remain proactive during this period of uncertainty, emphasising the importance of communication and collaboration across the supply chain.
Eve Livett at The Masonry Association says that moments like this underline the value of strong industry relationships—from manufacturers and merchants through to contractors on site.
“Price volatility is something the sector has had to navigate repeatedly in recent years. What’s critical is that we work together—sharing information early, managing expectations, and supporting one another where possible.”
Members are encouraged to:
- Maintain close dialogue with suppliers regarding pricing and availability
- Review contract terms where possible, particularly around fluctuation clauses
- Communicate early with clients if costs begin to shift
The Association also highlighted that collaboration—one of its core principles—remains key to maintaining stability across the sector.
